Geographic Regions and Search Results Prioritization

Bullseye provides flexible search options for your locator, enabling you to display search results that are convenient for your web audience, and appropriate for your business and dealer network.  Radius search, territory search, and country level search are available, depending upon the country.  For information on search granularity for countries see Search Types for Geographic Searches For information on creating territories see Create and Manage Territories

In addition to the geographic aspect of the search, Bullseye allows companies to display the results based on chosen product categories (see categories), as well as location type (including Internet locations and exclusive/preferred locations.)  Results may also be randomized.

How to Configure Radius Searches

To configure your search, go to Settings>Search Rules

You will then see a screen similar to below:

Select Configure next to the region.

You will see the Search Rules Setup page:

Set Up Details

Select Radius, Territory, Territory (State only) or Country next to search type.
The Radius option configures the locator so that web users will get search results based upon a selected mile radius.  This configuration is most common.
The Territory option allows users to return search results that fall within an assigned region (i.e. you may assign locations to states, counties, or postal codes, though the terminology may vary based on the country's postal system, and the granularity available). Territory searches are often used for Sales Rep or Distributor Locators, in situations where these individuals or locations are designated to strict geographic areas.
The Territory (State Only) option provides state-level granularity for certain countries.  To see the list of countries, see this article. Note that, if you select this option, you will also be able to set up more granular territories for countries with more granular data, alongside the state only countries. For countries that have both Territory and Territory (State Only) it will use the Territory (State Only) version for countries that have both, when you select the Territory (State Only) option.
The Country option allows you to display all locations within a country.
  • Return radius results for empty territory search will return search results within the selected radius in instances when no locations within a territory are found (this option is available only when the territory option is selected, as in the example above).
  • Return radius results with territory search will return search results alongside the locations that are found within a territory (they will be displayed after the territory results if you select this option with the territory search).
  • Max Number of Results is used when companies prefer to limit the number of results, particularly if they have a large location database.  Simply type in the appropriate number of results; the maximum number of results for radius or territory search is 500, while the maximum number of results for country search is 1,000.
  • Internet Locations in addition to brick and mortar locations, you can include Internet locations in the results. For radius searches, you have the option to display Internet locations in a few different ways.  You can display Internet locations if they are within a specified radius, within a searched country, if there are no brick and mortar results, or on the top/bottom of the brick and mortar results:(see the custom sorting option below if you want to show Internet Locations on the top/bottom of brick and mortar locations). For territory searches, you may only display Internet locations on the top or bottom of the brick and mortar results.
  • Match All Categories select Yes If you want the search to return locations that match to every single category selected. If you select No, the search will return locations match any of the categories selected.

Custom Sorting

  • Dealer Type: Dealers/locations can be prioritized in three tiers: standard, preferred, and exclusive.  If you sort by these criteria, exclusive locations are displayed first, followed by preferred, then standard.
  • Distance: This option will always be selected, as distance-based searches are critical for your locator.
  • Internet Locations First/Last: Internet locations are displayed before the brick and mortar locations, or after them.  Select the more appropriate option.
  • Random: Sometimes companies prefer to randomize the search results in order give their locations even exposure.
Once you have selected the criteria you prefer, select Save.. Congratulations, you have just configured your US/Canada locator!

How to Configure Other International Searches

If your company has locations in countries that do not support radius search ability, you can still include these locations in a country level search on your locator.  When you sign up for Bullseye, you would choose the Other International region to include these countries.  Contact us if you need help setting up this region.

By default, Bullseye allows you to add locations from any non-radius country as long as the Other International region is selected when you sign up. As you add locations from one or more of these countries, each country will be added to a drop down menu of our standard interface search so users can find the locations within the country.  You can use all Setup and Custom Sorting options for the Other International region, but the radius level search will not apply.

For Find clients, it is also possible to create territories that are comprised of multiple countries, to accommodate companies with distributors or reps that cover more than one country.

To create an International territory with more than one country, you'll need a Find subscription.

Before you create your territories, you need to configure your International search rules.  This process is very similar to creating US/Canada search rules.  Start by going to Settings>Locator Set Up. If you have signed up for International Searches, you should see International as an option (if not contact us).  Select Configure and you will get the screen example below:

Territory: This option will be preselected.

  • Max Number of Results: is used when companies prefer to limit the number of results, particularly if they have a large location database.  Simply type in the appropriate number of results, or leave this blank if you don’t require a limit.
  • Internet Locations: in addition to brick and mortar locations, you can turn this option on to display these locations in the results along with the regular locations.
  • Match All Categories select Yes If you want the search to return locations that match to every single category selected. If you select No, the search will return locations match any of the categories selected.
